The Louis Ghost chair - built for eternity
The Louis Ghost chair designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell in 2002 is celebrating its 10th anniversary! With 1,5 million sold pieces, Louis Ghost became the most frequently sold design chair in the world and made Kartell as a world leader in the production of transparent design furnishings. It is encountered everywhere: in private homes as well as in hundreds of international public areas such as restaurants, bars, museums and theatres. The Prague Opera uses the Louis Ghost in its furnishings and so does the University of Budapest. Its special design - a combination of multi-functionality and a baroque - looking shape - made it so famous that it was on the cover of worldwide magazines and creative artists like Christian Lacroix and John Galliano clothed it for a charity event.
What makes Louis Ghost so outstanding is that it is a stable, totally shock proofed and weather-resistant industrial product but has at the same time an original, fascinating and surprising design composed of transparency and the antique form. The designer Philippe Starck characterises his product as the result of the past, the present and the future. Over the years it has undergone various contaminations and mutations without giving up its own soul. And so it should be for the next ten years!
Happy Birthday Louis Ghost!
