At Inside Out we were excited to return to Milan for the 55th annual Salone Del Mobile, one of our favourite hot spots for discovering new designs and keeping up to date with the latest trends. During our time there we took a moment to catch up with a couple of this year’s key designers featuring their latest collections. We spoke about the inspiration for their new products and their take on why the Milan Design Week is so important.
Speaking to Philip Bro regarding his latest design, the Moai lounge chair.
The main focus for the Moai Lounge chair is in public areas, creating a private sphere within, similar to the Egg chair. The slight naive design is aimed to cement its place as a classic, with distinctive notches giving it personality and adding a comfortable supportive feature.
Seeing it in complete form for the first time in Milan is a great feeling and makes it very special. The shape and name is inspired by the figures on the Easter Island, a place I would love to travel, in the eastern Polynesia they are called the Moai faces and they look fascinating.
We also spoke to Chaput &Guijarro about their Cádiz armchair.
With the Cádiz armchair we wanted to create something that takes inspiration from the bar and restaurants of the European lifestyle. Looking at the classic Mediterranean bistro chairs, we wanted to create a modern interpretation.
Simple yet elegant with minimalistic lines and curves around the chair to create something different. With armrests, being stackable and overall functional is important but we still looked to achieve a contemporary style.
With this chair we wanted to create something that was timeless that fitted in many place and cultures easily away for a particular trend. We like to work in a minimalistic style defined lines, simple and functional. We would like to venture into more textured finishes in the future. With a few adjustments the Cádiz chair will be in production soon.
We have attended the Salone de Mobile fair for many years and think it is very important and our favourite of many. It is great for seeing new trends and creative directions.
